A Bit About Makila...
I am currently earning my master’s degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy at Lewis & Clark College, with a specialization in sex therapy. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Marriage and Family Studies with an emphasis in parent education from BYU-Idaho.
My approach to therapy is warm, empathetic, and collaborative. I work from a trauma-informed, Emotionally Focused lens, grounded in the belief that healing happens through emotionally safe relationships, the exploration of unmet needs, and a deeper understanding of the systems that shape us. I aim to support clients in accessing their emotions, softening reactive patterns, and moving toward greater connection—with themselves and with others.
I welcome individuals, families, and people in all types of relational structures—including polyamorous, kink-affirming, and non-traditional dynamics. I have a particular passion for helping people deepen emotional intimacy, navigate conflict, and strengthen their sexual wellbeing. I also offer support to those working through religious trauma or deconstructing from high-demand belief systems, honoring how these experiences shape identity, relationships, and meaning-making.
My background includes supporting teens and families through trauma and crisis at Youth Villages, working as a case manager and skill builder for diverse populations, and providing direct care for individuals with developmental disabilities. These roles have shaped my deep respect for each person’s story and strengthened my systemic, compassionate approach to therapy.
No matter what brings you to therapy, I’m committed to walking alongside you with care, curiosity, and without judgment.
